Some New Poems — 2014, Dorian (Ted)
JOURNEY
The morning sun
Delights in the silver-tipped junipers
That hungrily welcomed
Midnight rain.
I am taking a journey
Beyond cleverness.

GIVEN IN TRUST

I trust the field I walk in,
Sacred field of heaven’s bloom.
By what incalculable steps
I entered this domain
I cannot tell.  This only dawns me,
That I must walk as blessing to
The ground that blesses me.

THE FARING WELL

“Go feather light,” she said,
Turning her gaze to the long road.
And so I traveled on and away,
And the road indeed seemed neither
Long nor dreary
But only a dream passage
From and along and toward
Points of reality.
So shall my going be
When it is time to lift beyond this flesh.
I shall go feather light,
Surrendered to her word.

SUMMER STARS

Vega, Deneb, Altair,
Great triangle of the summer sky,
Bringing together
Lyre, Swan and Eagle
To my wondering gaze.
Eagle, the messenger whose
Deep-piercing eye
Scans heaven and earth
To give sweet Orpheus’ lyre
The tones of benediction,
While the thoughtful swan
Flies southward in her own
Sublime oblivion.
All perfect in the heart of night
And in my private human healing heart.

PARADISE

One rose, one bee, one dragonfly, and you
On a clear morning of July.

MANY VOICES

I have heard many voices in my life
And understood them all as if they were
A part of me.  Voices of wrath and strife,
Voices of indignation and despair,
Voices that cut my heartstrings like a knife,
And voices full of tenderness and care.
None of these voices can contentment bring,
Yet all contribute to the song I sing.

Contentment comes when in one moment’s grace
The gathering of a lifetime’s voices blends
Into the bass tone for an interface
Of thought and form.  Then gratitude extends
A welcome and a clear expansive space
For new creation, and the Song descends
Full-fashioned, fresh, melodious and sweet.
Who would not marvel, such a Song to greet?

BIRD SONGS UNSEEN

Are you lonely tonight,
Dear little brown mockingbird,
Chirping your tiny heart into
The deep air of midnight?
Or does that answering sweetness
Console and retune you
To the pattern of your birdliness?
I only know that my own heart
Softens with the tender
Dancing together
Of two tiny throats,
Impulsive in the cooling
Breath of summer.

THE INNER LIFE

Deep in my heart, Love,
You abide forever.
Here is the resting place
Of your free spirit.
Deep, deep in the waters
Of my sensate soul
You swim your moonlit path.

Yet here am I, Love, too,
Washed in the wondering waters
That are the depth of you.

How can it be, that walking
The silent hills and valleys
Of our own solitude,
We yet remain at home
Each in the other’s heart?

Deep in the mystery of God
One sanctity dissolves
The salt of separation,
One heart, one home, one heaven,
One residence of Love.

IN PRAISE OF OLDER WOMEN
Deep night sits silent
In my heart.
The clouded moon rides high
And near to full,
Whiter than all hidden stars.
And I – oh I will sing
This night a song of joy
In the knowing of women –
In the rapture of knowing women
Who once were young, and gloried
In their shy adventurous sleek bodies
And the lust of men who honored them
With songs from the cracking
Of their easily wounded hearts.
These women I sing for
Are no longer sleek nor shy.
They are grand in the naked clothing
Of courage and high majesty.
They have woven themselves a beauty
Undesired and unforeseen,
The beauty of deep night and a moonlight
No pain could overcast.
